West of Kahnawake
village, many large blocks of stone were extracted
to build bridge piers (Goudge, 1935, p. 203;
Parks, 1914, p. 48-49). The stone
was a grey, medium- to coarse-grained limestone
from thick strata of the Saint-Martin Facies belonging
to the Laval Formation, Chazy Group (Clark,
1972).
