Description
Porphyritic farsundite belonging to the La Baie
Granite. The granite is extracted from two quarries located northwest
of La Baie, in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Region.
The first has been operated by Granicor since the
beginning of 1960. The stone, available in rough blocks, is primarily
used to produce cut-to-size panels, slabs, tiles, and curbstones.
The second has been operated by Polycor since the
beginning of 1970. Uses for the stone include producing cut-to-size
panels, slabs, and tiles.
