Wildlife is a key component of Québec’s heritage. The pervasiveness of nature right up to the city surroundings, the variety and magnificence of landscapes, the expanses of untouched wilderness, the multitude of lakes and watercourses, the opportunity to freely access vast public lands, all make Québec an international-class tourism destination which would be quite incomplete without the diverse wildlife inhabiting it.

To preserve this resource, the Ministère engages in the management of wildlife exploitation activities, the enhancement of wildlife, and the monitoring and control on the use of the wildlife resource and its habitats. It implements various knowledge-acquisition programs on wildlife and its habitats in forest, water and farm environments. The development of management and preservation plans for vulnerable species and the monitoring of wildlife users’ activities are also part of the Ministère’s ongoing activities.
